This evening the game “the walking dead betrayal” was launched in early access. There are still some things that need to be improved, but it is already generating money for the company!
On a side note, it kind of becomes clear why (amongst others) skybound got a stake in 5PG, They can use it to acquire companies like sagafilms, by paying them out in shares of 5PG, which can be sold/kept later on.
Update on the most important games (currently)
- Betrayal the walking dead.
This should be the big game of 5PG this year. Game will have full launch in Q1 2024. Game has decreased in price (good idea in my opinion) and will try to sell bundles of copies, which is detrimental to this kind of games in order to have enough players. Game looks promising, is already playable and will have a hybrid earning model (purchase game at low price+ingame cosmetics). In fact it already generates money for 5PG.
- Glitch busters: I somehow think it is very difficult to assess the results from this game taking into account the western market. It has much more exposure on the asian market: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nn7ib3fggQ . e.g. 200.000 views on this link.
3)Vice NCVDR: no updates sinds last year. Project cancelled?
-
Atom eve: still planned for 2023
-
Wrestle quest: is getting extremely positive reviews in recent days. 93% last 30 days. Which is good.
-
Before your eyes: is still performing well and generates money for the company. if we look at the steamreviews, it still sells a similar amount of copies (at lower prices however) a month as the recently launched Wrestle quest. This indicates more the quality of before your eyes than a lack of quality in wrestle quest.
-
Escape academy: Doing Okish, nothing big. It has at least one big update coming called: Escape Academy: Tournament of Puzzles.
Overall the games are doing well. They have decent - good reviews and there is no real fail to be spotted (appart from potentialy VICE NCVDR). The company is generating money now and the technical analysis of 5PG should change in the next months when those following the company (e.g. https://simplywall.st/stocks/no/media/ob-5pg/5th-planet-games-shares) catch on increased profitability of this firm. Also looking forward what will happen with SAGA films.
31-2023 5th Planet Games Announces Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, a Visual Novel RPG Video Game Co-Financed By 5th Planet Games will be available on November 14, 2023.
Hur kan det här bolaget fortfarande värderas till en halv miljard?
Omsättningen var alltså 2 MDKK i Q2 och förlusten 1,5 MDKK.
- Lots of cash
- Investments (e.g. Sagafilm)
- Games in pipeline
Most important part of the mail of Stanger is this part:
Finally, and in case you missed it, the first collaboration between 5th Planet Games, Skybound Galactic and Sagafilm was announced on 16th Nov, a brand new TV series based on writer Emil Hjörvar Petersen’s Survivors of Ragnarök novels; described as a thrilling saga that offers a fresh perspective on Norse mythology, Petersen’s trilogy of novels reveals the untold story of a post-apocalyptic world where gods and mortals must navigate a future fraught with challenges. Further details will be shared in due course.
This has two impications: The stockpile of cash will be put at work and 5PG starts to copy the wheel of awesomeness of Skybound. It in fact (co-)finances almost the exact same projects.
35-2023 5th Planet Games Announces The Walking Dead™: Betrayal is to be removed from sale and its servers closed.
It should be considered bad as it is a large IP. Large IPs like the walking dead, should normally attract a large audience. I played it and enjoyed it, nevertheless there was one huge flaw: you need a constant minimum playerbase, which is difficult to attract. In my opinion the game should have been F2P with instore purchases. Initial pricemark of 18 dollar was way too high, decrease in price to 10 dollar was OK, but too late, the ship was already sunk. Quality wise the game was OKish, allthough not excellent. I understand the decission to kill it.
Financially, I suppose it is no disaster as it was an indie type of game and it did not seemed there was a lot of money invested in it It was more of a reskin of project winter. Nevertheless, we do not know what was in the contract with the creators.
I do however hope that 5PG can be involved in subsequent Walking dead type of game as these can attract a massive amount of people.
I also hope they sort of revive the HUGO character (5PG still owns that IP) now they have a share in Sagafilms. It is a member berry for much of N-Europe and that kind of stuff has a decent chance of performing well.
