Huddly AS - US court order stops infringement of Huddly IP

On 17 May 2022 the United States District Court of the Northern District of California issued a court order in which it fully supports Huddly’s claim against the company Suzhou Washeng Technology Co. Ltd. (also known as “Hamedal”).

This means that Hamedal is permanently required to stop all use of trademarks that the US Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (“TTAB”) previously has found to be infringing on Huddly’s trademarks.

“Huddly’s success as innovation leader in the videoconferencing market makes it tempting to steal our intellectual property. This is unacceptable, and the decision of the United States District Court of the Northern District of California should serve as a warning to any other parties with similar intentions. Huddly is stepping up the game to protect our IP and we already see the results”, says Alexander Woxen, CEO of Huddly.

Hamedal must permanently stop any marketing, manufacture, and/or sale of its V20 videoconferencing camera or any other product with a design confusingly similar to the trade dress of Huddly’s videoconferencing cameras Huddly GO or Huddle IQ. It is also declared that Hamedal wilfully infringes Huddly’s federally protected trademarks and trade dress. Huddly retains the right to pursue damages and cost in courts of competent jurisdiction and any suitable tribunals upon future discovery or further information.

On 28 September 2020 Huddly AS initiated a cancellation proceeding with the TTAB of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”) to cancel Hamedal’s trademark registrations “H” and “Hamedal” on the basis that the trademark registrations were confusingly similar to Huddly’s previously registered trademarks.

Huddly was successful in the US cancellation proceeding, however Hamedal continued its use of the infringing trademarks. Hence Huddly followed up with a lawsuit against Hamedal in the District Court of the Northern District of California, in order to have a court order that prohibits Hamedal’s infringements of Huddly’s intellectual property rights. The lawsuit resulted in the court order of 17 May 2022 which fully supports Huddly’s claim.

Huddly AS – Graham Williams appointed as new CEO

Today, Graham Williams has been appointed as new CEO, following that the current CEO Alexander Woxen today informed the board that he has decided to step down from his position. Woxen will support the board and management for a six-month transition period.

Graham Williams, who has been Chair of the Board of Huddly since 2016 and has extensive experience in the visual collaboration industry, having held various roles over the course of 35 years. He led the company iVision to become the leading videoconferencing integrator in the Asia Pacific region, which in 2011 resulted in iVision being acquired by Telstra Ltd, Australia’s largest telecommunications provider.

Huddly Q4 2022 – Record revenue and margin pressure in 2022

Oslo, February 14, 2023: Huddly reports 12% revenue growth to NOK 113 million in the fourth quarter 2022, with revenue for the full year growing by 34% to a record NOK 452 million. The revenue growth was driven by higher sales through strategic partners. Gross Margin was 39% in the quarter, up from 34% in the previous quarter and down from 44% in the same period the year before. The full year Gross Margin was 37%, with the decline from 50% in 2021 explained by increased component prices and changes in customer and product mix. Revenue and Gross Margin for the full year both ended within the guidance ranges indicated by the company.
Huddly continues to strengthen its position as a product innovation leader and made its first deliveries of the ‘Huddly Speaker Framing’ software during the fourth quarter. The company also launched ‘Huddly Crew’, the world’s first multi-camera system with a built in AI director, which will begin shipping in 2023.
“While we report record revenue and see a strong long-term market outlook for collaborative video solutions, we also recognize that a weaker investment sentiment creates a more uncertain market outlook. We are focusing on four main areas going forward in this market. We will continue to lead with technology innovation, strengthen strategic partnerships and channel sales, increase margins and manage costs without jeopardizing our long-term growth opportunities.” says CEO Graham Williams in Huddly.
