5th Planet Games A/S

Jo det var det jeg fant ut. Ble jo ikke så store tapet uansett. La meg bare på kjøpsprisen. Noe jeg gjør alt for ofte fordi jeg fort blir utålmodig.

Community Update 27th July
Hello  Welcome to our second community update from us here at Hugo Games. It’s been a VERY busy week for our dev team over in the UK. Unfortunately, what we’ve been working on isn’t all that exciting to waffle on about. So, instead of that, I have a couple of points which I will address in just a second (or half a page… I’m still getting used to writing these updates and what kind of terminology I should use)!

I’ve been having some fun this week getting to know a few of you over on our Twitter page (there’s a link at the bottom of this email if you want to get involved). This week the focus has been on getting some fan art from our artistically talented fans and we received a couple of amazing submissions! If you want to share some of your art with us, please do! I’ll be posting them on our socials periodically (unless the artists requests that I don’t).

Progress
As I said before, I had some points that I wanted to address this week with regards to the community. I’m still working to find my feet and see what does and doesn’t work for those of you that follow Hugo Games. I’ve been reaching out on Twitter a little more often to get to know some of you a little better and the same goes for the Facebook pages. However, I’m fairly certain that there’s many other means of communication I could use that you as the community would appreciate.
Discord - For those of you that aren’t sure what Discord is, imagine real-time forums combined with chat rooms. Multiple chat rooms focused on different topics with the opportunity to talk in voice chats as well. I think this would be a great way of acting like a message board for the community for any important news and upcoming events. It’s also a great way for me to get to know you all better and for you to all get to know each other as well. If we can get enough people involved, this could be a really fun adventure for us all

Forums - Hugo Games already has forums as some of you may know, but they’re fairly quiet at the moment. I’d like to revamp and breathe new life into them. New topic areas, small little competitions etc. I feel like this would be especially appreciated by the older members of the community.

YouTube - Hugo did have a YouTube channel once upon a time. Unfortunately it has been lost into the aether, so a new one will need to be created. This is something I’ve been planning on doing since I started working here, but I’m not sure what types of videos you’d like to see. Let me know what you’d like to see and I’ll make it happen!
OK, that’s definitely enough writing from me for the week. It’s now your job to provide feedback on the ideas and let me know what you like and what you don’t like. If there’s any ideas that I’ve missed that you’d like to see in the future, please let me know. All feedback can be sent to [email protected]. I’ll be checking regularly to make sure I don’t miss any messages!

I’m really looking forward to hearing from you guys

Hugo Games Community Update

Hello  I just want to start with a big thank you for signing up to the community updates from Hugo Games. I’m happy to see so many of you taking an interest! Just a little reminder before we jump into the fun part of the update; you can keep in touch with Hugo Games and myself on Twitter and Facebook (links at the bottom of the email) and also via my e-mail address [email protected]. Feel free to get in touch with us and get involved!

As I mentioned last week, I was going to look into developing some new methods for us to get together as a community and have more regular communication with each other. The other ideas (YouTube, Forums) are still being worked on, but this week I’ve opened up the official Hugo Games Discord Server! You’ll be able to keep in touch with us, make suggestions for changes and improvements to games, provide feedback, make new friends and generally just be a real part of a dynamic community.

If we get enough active users, I can look into hosting monthly activities for us such as game sessions, Q&A sessions, competitions and whatever else you’d like to see. I’ll be relying fairly heavily on feedback from users to improve the server, it is designed for the benefit of the community as a majority after all!
I’ve left the link below and I look forward to getting to know you all over there

Other ideas that were suggested to me last week included a Hugo Games subreddit and an Instagram channel. I’m happy to work on setting up either of those, but it’d be great to get some more input

In other news, the latest Ludum Dare Game Jam occurred this weekend. For those that may not know, this is a contest in which you have 72 hours to build a game from scratch. The games get rated and prizes go out to the winners. Our very own Matt Stockham (developer at Fuzzy Frog) competed this weekend and developed a game called XenoSiphon. You are an astronaut trapped on an alien infested space ship and you must find your way to the Escape Pod before your power in your space suit runs out. There are aliens that will try and stop you though, so watch out! If you’d like to check the game out and maybe leave Matt some feedback or a positive comment, you can do so here - https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/xenosiphon (the game is FREE!)

OK, that’s it from me for this week. Don’t forget to join the Discord server and connect with us on our social media pages, I’ll be waiting!

All the best,

Matt

Hugo Games Community Update August 10th

Hello! Welcome to the 3rd community update from us here at Hugo Games. Just to recap from last week, we launched the official Hugo Games Discord Server on Thursday of last week… aaaaand then I went on holiday for 3 days. This week, my main job is get the server a little more active. If you have any questions, the Discord server is now the place to go. There’s a link at the bottom of this email to get involved.
Assuming I keep getting questions from the server, I’ll take a segment of this email to answer the bigger/more frequently asked questions. This week we have 4 pretty good ones!

  1. What has been happening at Hugo Games since the last Community Update? - A fair amount of things this week. Towards the end of last week we released a new tutorial for Nyjah Huston: #SkateLife which should make the experience significantly better for players. We’ll be working on fine tuning and monitoring that over the next couple of weeks. Other games are progressing as usual and I’m a little limited on what I can and can’t tell you. More on that in the future!
  1. Any updates on Doodle Jump 2? Maybe a release date? - I have to be careful here as Doodle Jump 2 is not our IP (Intellectual Property). I believe the worldwide release for Doodle Jump 2 is towards the end of Q4/ the beginning of Q1. Don’t quote me on that until I tell you that’s for certain though! As for updates, we’ve been working hard on the level design for DJ2. It’s a tricky thing to ensure the levels are easily navigatable for the player, but also provide a challenge and many obstacles so it feels rewarding. There will be some surprises when you finally get your hands on it!
  1. When are you going global with Nyjah Huston: #SkateLife? - The planned global release for this game is Q4. Which could be any time between September 1st and December 31st. I promise we’ll narrow this down for you when we come closer to the full release.
  1. How are your developer team organised and how is your working process? - This is one of those questions that would take 1,500 words to answer fully so I’m going to make this super basic. Our dev team is called Fuzzy Frog and, right now, they’re made up of around 30 members split into 4 dev teams and then supports (such as QA and Community (me  )). Each dev team works on a specific game but the members can swap around between teams as is needed. We find our artists are working for multiple projects at once these days.
As for our working process, we plan our development on a 1-week/2-week basis and break the required work up into tasks to aid the devs in their focus. That’s the basics of it, at least!

Thanks for your questions!
That’s it for this week! As always, you can get in touch with us using those enormous social buttons at the bottom of this email. You can also get in touch through the Discord server here - https://discord.gg/zngknwt. If you’re not into socials, you can email me at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you

All my best,

Matt
