NOM: BATTERY GRADE LITHIUM CARBONATE PRODUCED IN KELIBERS TEST PROGRAM

In a recent test program, Nordic Minings associated company Keliber (Nordic
Mining owns approximately 25%) has consistently produced battery grade lithium
carbonate (99.5% Li2CO3). The purity of the lithium carbonate samples produced
was in the range 99.67% - 99.91% Li2CO3.
As a part of the comprehensive process studies conducted in connection with the
forthcoming pre-feasibility study, Keliber has carried out test work together
with GTK Mintec and Outotec (Finland) Oyj to develop and optimise its lithium
carbonate production process. Lithium carbonate has been produced from spodumene
pegmatite ore from the Länttä deposit. Analytical results indicate that high
-purity lithium carbonate, including qualities exceeding 99.9% purity, can be
produced using the developed process technology.
The battery grade lithium carbonate (99.5% Li2CO3) is used in the cathode part
of the batteries. Lithium carbonate of 99.9% purity is used in the manufacturing
of electrolyte solutions for lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are
used in electric and hybrid vehicles and electronics like tablets, mobile phones
and laptops.
Kelibers pre-feasibility study is expected to be completed in February 2016.

First drill cores retrieved from Engebø
Nordic Mining’s subsidiary Nordic Rutile AS has started the drilling program at
the Engebø rutile deposit. The first drill cores were retrieved yesterday. The
drilling is expected to continue for approximately 8 weeks.
The Finnish company Oy Kati Ab has started the drilling operation at Engebø with
two mobile drilling rigs. The drill cores will be subject to various analyses to
determine rutile grade, by-product garnet quality, and other mineral
characteristics. The subsequent resource estimation and reclassification are
expected to be completed in Q3 2016.

valuable geological information for the further planning of the Engebø project,
and we are pleased that the drilling now has commenced.”

Forurensningene innerst i Førdefjorden kommer hovedsaklig fra tidligere industrivirksomhet, og betyr at mudderbunnen er mer forurenset enn en gjennomsnittlig norsk mudderbunn. Grunnforholdene og sjøbunnen innerst i Førdefjorden har tidligere blitt analysert og prøvene viser sterkt forurensede bunnsedimenter.
Dersom spredningen av utslipp følger det mønsteret som mange høyttalende mijøforkjempere antyder, vil hele Førdefjorden være forurenset tilsvarende. De planlagte utslippene fra sjødeponi vil være langt mindre forurenset og en rapport slår fast at massene vil være velegnet som tildekkingsmasse av forurenset sjøbunn:
“En samlet vurdering av tilgjengelig data og informasjon er gjort i henhold til Klifs veileder TA- 2143/2005, og på generelt grunnlag vurderes eklogittavgang fra Engebø som egnet tildekkingsmasse.”
Målsetningen til miljøforkjempere burde derfor være å få eklogittavgangen til å spre seg utover hele Førdefjorden, for å få en mindre forurenset sjøbunn og slik oppnå et bedre habitat for bunnlevende organismer.
