million (2.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2023). The gross margin of 49.0
percent represented a sequential growth from 47.4 percent in the third quarter
of 2023 and a decline from 50.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2023. The
EBITDA margin was 14.4 percent (16.8 percent), a sequential improvement from 8.3
percent.

“Smartoptics experienced substantial growth in the fourth quarter, driven by
strong market activity and an attractive product portfolio. After four soft
quarters, the 2H 2024 rebound was expected. We are pleased to see that our
efforts to attract new customers and launch new products have paid off,” says
Magnus Grenfeldt, CEO of Smartoptics.

With an innovative approach to optical network solutions and devices,
Smartoptics operates in a market with strong positive trends. The main driver is
the ever-growing demand for bandwidth supported by factors like increased
internet streaming, more cloud computing and the AI explosion.

“One of the significant accomplishments in 2024 was the advancement of our
strategy to enhance our standing among major telecommunications operators and
corporations. Relevant new products and targeted sales work and relationship
building really paid off and contributed to the growth in the fourth quarter.
Looking ahead, we believe uncertainty in the market is reduced, and the
willingness to invest is to a large extent back among our customers,” says
Magnus Grenfeldt.

Smartoptics’ business model implies significant scalability, which led to the
improved EBITDA margin in the fourth quarter. In the medium to long-term,
Smartoptics targets EBITDA margins of 17-20 percent, and the ambition is to
reach USD 100 million of annual revenue by 2025/2026.

The Smartoptics Board of Directors intends to propose to the Annual General
Meeting 8 May 2025 a dividend of NOK 0.60 per share, increased with NOK 0.10
since last year.

Mexico. The Smartoptics solution provides flexible and cost-efficient
connectivity. This enables AirFaster to offer competitive services to customers.

AirFaster is a communication service provider (CSP) operating on the Pacific
Ocean coast of Baja California in Mexico. The CSP’s network covers five cities,
running 600 km along the coast from its HQ in Ensenada to Tijuana, which borders
San Diego, California, in the United States. This coastal fiber route poses
geographical challenges, requiring both aerial and underground fiber.
Smartoptics open line systems are used to provide flexible and reliable DWDM
networking along this route.

The DCP-802 transponder enables 800G networking in a compact form factor,
significantly reducing power consumption and latency. It supports 1:1
transponder mode for direct conversion to DWDM. With support for 800G breakout,
a single connection can be split into two 400G links (2×400G) or eight 100G
links (8×100G) to maximize fiber utilization. This optimizes cost per bit for
communication service providers, enterprises and internet exchanges.

The DCP-802 is designed for three use cases:

· 1:1 transponder mode: Convert 800G, 400G or 100G gray signals to coherent
DWDM.
· Get more out of switches and routers with 800G breakout: Extend the life of
100G/400G ports with increased capacity or break out 800G ports into multiple
lower-rate links for broader compatibility.
· Enable signal hand-off with performance monitoring: Use the transponder’s
demarcation point to measure performance before handing off the signal to
another system.

The dual 400G/800G transponder features two client ports supporting a flexible
range of QSFP-DD transceiver types. On the line side, it supports coherent DWDM
400G and 800G modulation formats, with optional Layer 1 encryption for easily
securing data in transit.

To optimize capacity and reach for specific network needs, the transponder
supports programmable line rates from 100G to 800G in small increments. These
flexible data rates are made possible with cutting-edge technologies such as
dynamically adjusting modulation and constellation shaping.

“While we saw a slight revenue decline for 2024 as a whole, we ended the year on
a very strong note, with 22 percent revenue growth in the fourth quarter, and a
significant uptick in profitability. With this, an exceptional period of four
consecutive quarters of soft market and revenue decline came to an end,” said
CEO of Smartoptics, Magnus Grenfeldt.

Despite soft revenue development during the first quarters of 2024, Smartoptics
continued to build for the future. Not only through development of the product
portfolio, but also by developing the go-to-market model and the organization
for long-term growth.

“Our belief in the long-term potential of the optical network industry is
unwavering. The growing demand for bandwidth will undoubtably continue driven by
more and more video streaming, live gaming, videoconferencing, cloud computing,
and AI. Smartoptics is perfectly positioned in this space. Throughout 2024 we
maintained high gross margins, and as growth picks up, we expect operating
margins to develop positively”, said Magnus Grenfeldt.

percent, unchanged compared to the same quarter in 2024.

“In the first quarter of 2025, Smartoptics continued to grow well. This is
another proof point that we are back on our long-term trend of solid growth, as
anticipated,” says Magnus Grenfeldt, CEO of Smartoptics.

The positive development, driven by Solutions, Software and Services in Americas
and APAC, is underpinned by the successful launch of a range of new products
during 2024. The enhancements and expansion of the product portfolio provide
performance improvement and position Smartoptics as more relevant for larger
networks and larger customers. This has resulted in new partnerships with larger
customers.

“The ever-growing demand for bandwidth provides long-term tail wind for us. We
focus on broadening our product portfolio, allowing us to expand our addressable
market into regional networks, and we see that ever more customers want to move
towards more cost efficient and flexible IP over DWDM networks,” Grenfeldt adds.

In 2025, Smartoptics focuses particularly on AI and network automation, aiming
for greater simplicity, increased automation of network operations across
network layers which ultimately will open up for new revenue streams.

shares to leverage our technology, pipeline and growth opportunities in 2025,”

core network across the UK. The solution delivers scalable IP over DWDM at 100G
and 400G wavelengths and is 800G-ready by design.

Netomnia, the UK’s second-largest alternative network provider (AltNet), builds
and operates the full-fibre infrastructure used for its wholesale services and
its retail broadband providers, YouFibre and brsk. Together, they deliver high
-speed internet to homes and businesses across the UK via Netomnia’s network.
The combined footprint now covers 2.4 million serviceable premises, with 310,000
premises already connected. With ambitious expansion plans, Netomnia aims to
reach 5 million serviceable premises by the end of 2027, reinforcing its
position as a leader in the UK’s full-fibre revolution.

To accommodate rapid subscriber growth from YouFibre and brsk, Netomnia has
taken the strategic step of expanding capacity and unifying its regional
networks into a national core. The company is connecting existing hubs around
London, Manchester and Wales into a ring network using its own dark fibre. By
deploying Smartoptics’ flexible 34-degree ROADMs, managed with the SoSmart
software suite, variable gain amplifiers and coherent optics, the 800G-ready
network supports any-to-any high-speed services.

“Investing in our own dark fibre and equipment was the clear long-term choice,
with projected savings of millions compared to leased lit capacity over five to
seven years. Smartoptics stood out with no licensing fees for alien wavelengths,
a compact footprint, and 800G-ready ROADMs that are easy to manage with the
SoSmart controller. The solution outperformed more complex and restrictive
alternatives. Deploying a national network could have been complex and
challenging, but thanks to Smartoptics’ intuitive platform and strong support,
the rollout felt easy from the start,” says Sam Defriez, Director of Networks,

Netomnia’s new national ROADM network enables near-unlimited capacity while
reducing dependence on external providers. It is designed to carry 100G and 400G
IP over DWDM wavelengths and delivers a more scalable, flexible and cost
-efficient transport layer for continued growth.
