BW LPG announces divestment of Berge Summit

Berge Summit was built in 1990 with a carrying capacity of 78,489 cbm and has been used as a LPG floating storage for a gas-to-power project for the last 5 years. Financial Performance

BW LPG Limited (“BW LPG”, the “Company”, OSE ticker code: “BWLPG.OL”) reported a Q2 2020 net profit after tax of USD 62 million and a H1 2020 net profit after tax of USD 143 million, yielding a H1 2020 annualised return on equity of 24%.

Time Charter Equivalent (TCE) income amounted to USD 149 million in Q2 2020 and USD 311 million in H1 2020, mainly attributable to higher LPG spot rates and higher fleet utilisation. Included in TCE income for the quarter is USD 17 million relating to the effects of IFRS 15 – Revenue from Contracts with Customers.

EBITDA was USD 113 million for the quarter and USD 239 million for H1 2020, representing an EBITDA margin of approximately 77%. Earnings per share was USD 0.45 for Q2 2020 and USD 1.03 for H1 2020.

Net leverage ratio decreased to 46.2% at the end of the quarter, mainly due to solid cash flows from operations, net of US$145 million in total dividends paid for 2019 and Q1 2020.

The Board has declared a Q2 2020 cash dividend of USD 0.15 per share amounting to USD 21 million. This brings total dividends declared for H1 2020 to USD 0.35 per share, amounting to USD 49 million. The shares will be traded ex-dividend from 1 September 2020. The dividend will be payable on or about 11 September 2020 to shareholders on record as at 2 September 2020.

BW LPG is retrofitting the world’s first LPG dual-fuel engines on BW Gemini and BW Leo, taking the lead and advancing technology towards zero-carbon fuel propulsion. The Company is committed to twelve retrofits through 2020 and 2021. Retrofitting provides significantly more environmental benefits compared to newbuildings as confirmed by DNV, and boosts an already efficient and clean fleet without adding capacity.
BW LPG is collaborating with Hafnia on bunker procurement. Hafnia supports the bunkering of over 450 ships and will bring economies of scale and best in class logistics to BW LPG.

Market Outlook

Although VLGC freight rates collapsed at the end of May, the market recovered strongly towards the end of July and rates increased to over USD 50,000 per day in early August. In 2021, a weaker outlook for U.S. LPG supply coupled with a relatively high number of newbuild deliveries are expected to put downward pressures on vessel utilisation.

The retrofitting process at Yiu Lian Dockyard in Shenzhen, China, took approximately 60 days and is estimated to have emitted 2,060 tons of carbon dioxide This is approximately 97% lower when compared to ordering a newbuilding with similar technology.

The gas and sea trials took approximately seven days, with intermittent delays caused by inclement weather in waters offshore Hong Kong. The pioneering LPG propulsion technology onboard was tested to its safe limits by an expert team from engine manufacturer MAN ES, BW LPG’s Newbuilding & Projects and Technical departments, and classification society DNV-GL. Following satisfactory performance, DNV-GL has awarded the required classification certificate to BW Gemini.

BW Gemini has achieved a historic milestone as the world’s first VLGC to be fueled by LPG, with the retrofitted main engine running on LPG and switching to traditional fuel seamlessly. The vessel will sail on full LPG propulsion across the Pacific Ocean in another historic first, to Enterprise Port in Houston, Texas, for loading. Her voyage is expected to produce 20% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to compliant fuels, and use 10% less fuel, demonstrating the benefits of LPG propulsion to the industry.

Generated Q3 2020 net profit after tax of USD 25 million or an earnings per share of USD 0.18.

YTD September 2020 annualised return on equity of 19% with USD 400 million of free cash flow.

Declared Q3 2020 cash dividend of USD 0.15 per share - this translates to a pay-out ratio, as a percentage of NPAT, of 84% in Q3 and 42% YTD.

BW Gemini, the world’s first LPG-powered VLGC, is on a historic transpacific crossing on LPG propulsion to the USA, where she will receive the largest-ever load of LPG on a single keel.

Financial Performance

BW LPG Limited (“BW LPG”, the “Company”, OSE ticker code: “BWLPG.OL”) reported a Q3 2020 net profit after tax of USD 25 million and a YTD September 2020 net profit after tax of USD 167 million, yielding a YTD September 2020 annualised return on equity of 19% with USD 400 million of free cash flow. With a solid cash flow, BW LPG paid down debt and reduced its net leverage ratio to 44% in Q3 2020, from 54% in Q3 2019.

Time Charter Equivalent (TCE) income amounted to USD 101 million in Q3 2020 and USD 413 million in YTD September 2020. VLGC freight rates collapsed at the end of the second quarter and recovered in a V-shaped trend. As guided in the Q2 earnings release, this made Q3 the weakest quarter in 2020.

EBITDA was USD 67 million for the quarter and USD 307 million for YTD September 2020, representing an EBITDA margin of approximately 66% and 74% respectively. Earnings per share was USD 0.18 in Q3 2020 and USD 1.21 in YTD September 2020.

The Board has declared a Q3 2020 cash dividend of USD 0.15 per share amounting to USD 21 million. With this dividend, BW LPG has paid USD 0.50 per share to-date, representing about 42% of FY2020 YTD earnings per share. The shares will be traded ex-dividend from 18 November 2020. The dividend will be payable on or about 11 December 2020 to shareholders on record as of 19 November 2020.

Market Outlook

Q3 has proven to be the weakest quarter thus far in 2020. BW LPG remains optimistic about the VLGC market for the rest of the year and we have also upgraded our view for 2021. The VLGC freight market is strong and is supported by resilient LPG exports out of the US, recovery in LPG exports from the Middle East, and a widening arbitrage driven by strong demand and reduced fleet availability.

BW LPG Limited (“BW LPG”, the “Company”, OSE ticker code: “BWLPG.OL”) has entered into Memorandums of Agreement (MOA) to sell two Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC) BW Confidence and BW Cedar.

BW Confidence was built in 2006 and has a carrying capacity of 83,270 cbm. The sale is expected to generate approximately US$36 million in liquidity and an expected net book gain of approximately US$4 million. The sale and delivery of the vessel to its new owner is expected to be completed in Q1 2021.

BW Cedar was built in 2007 and has a carrying capacity of 82,260 cbm. The sale has no liquidity impact in Q4 2020 and is expected to generate a net book gain of approximately US$3 million. BW Cedar will join three other VLGCs; namely BW Boss, BW Energy, and BW Birch in our joint venture company (JV) BW Global United LPG India. All four vessels are on time charter contracts to major Indian oil companies to supply India with LPG.

Says Anders Onarheim, CEO of BW LPG, “Committing both vessels for sale is aligned with our strategy to capture growth opportunities. With a strong VLGC freight market, we secured an attractive price for BW Confidence. With BW Cedar, we further strengthen BW LPG’s strong base in India. BW Gemini is carrying a record load of 49,000 metric tons of LPG on a single keel. As the vessel refueled while loading and no additional bunkering was needed, she has proceeded on her voyage. This turnaround translates to an increase in the vessel’s commercial availability for customers.

On the back of BW Gemini’s successful retrofitting and first voyage, as well as the Company’s belief in the future of LPG, BW LPG has committed an additional three VLGCs for retrofitting, bringing the total commitment to 15 vessels and a combined cost of approximately USD 130 million.

Says Anders Onarheim, BW LPG CEO, “We are taking the lead and advancing technology that will allow us to decarbonize and maximize the value of an asset with a 20-year lifespan as we prepare for a zero-carbon solution.” He adds, “Building new ships can provide the benefits of operating with LPG but comes at a heavy cost. Counting total emissions, a new ship represents about 70,000 tons of carbon dioxide in the materials and building process. Compared to 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide for retrofitting, the sustainability outcome is much better from retrofitting than from building new vessels.”

At about 0730hrs local time on 19 December, Very Large Gas Carrier BW Gemini was lightly struck by another vessel whilst at anchor at Cristóbal, Panama.

All crew is safe and accounted for, and no injury has been reported. No pollution has been sighted, and instrumentation onboard indicates that there is no leakage from BW Gemini. Sounding has been conducted to ensure the integrity of the vessel. All required notifications have been made.

BW Gemini has been inspected by relevant authorities and surveyors. As she awaits her slot to cross the Panama Canal, she will proceed for repairs. No impact to her voyage is expected.
