To make it more complicated, the Asus event is at the same time as Dell have theirs…

Looks like Asus will have a second launch event in early June. It could be close to Elabs schedule timewise

“Adaptive Lock” was mentioned as a security feature in Vivobook S 15 introduction. Their first X Elite laptop.

“It automatically locks your computer when you step away”.

It was mentioned after the camera introduction, so we cannot know is it based on camera or something else.

“internal laptop cams normally don’t interest me. With that said, the Vivobook S 15’s “AiSense” IR camera has me intrigued. It’s definitely boasting features you don’t see in your average laptop webcam, like presence-detection auto dimming and an adaptive lock system that locks you out should you move into another room before instantly unlocking the laptop once the cam can see you again.”

I hope its not a camera surveilling 24/7  but if it uses only IR mode for that, then its not a problem for privacy

I think your model shown is old, its not an “S”.

This is interesting as the Lenovo T14 Gen6 announced today has that shutter also.

I think presence of a shutter does not automatically tell us about Elabs…

But still, so many models from different OEMs were announced i(ncl. Lenovo), that we should see news from Elabs quite soon. If we dont get a pile of new laptops announced soon, then its a little worrying for Elabs shareholders

Wow, thanks for sharing!
That was quite a lot of laptops to come!

I think we may have OEM #2 among these, so I will be watching the launch events closely.

I see the discussion about camera as a sensor for proximity detection. One of the possibilities for Elabs is to take adventure of existing HW on units. Elabs can use microphone/speaker to detect presence, and when presence id detected the SW can wake up the system, including camera, and the existing sensors can detect face-id, iris-recognition, voice-recognition, etc.

If the camera is “always-on”, there will be too much power spent on functions as “Wake On Apporoach” etc. Ultrasound is much more power-saving.

I look forward to the next days and weeks, and thinks OEM#2 will be launching on SD Elite X already in Q2🙌

Remember that it can take days or even weeks after launch before Elabs can give us a message. Have seen it many times before.

Yes I know its an old one. My point was that they have camera shutters and I think new ones will have same

Might not say too much, but there’s several way for a camera to be sensing as Myragubben mention in an earlier post.
