The Vice President of the United States has no constitutional power or authority. The Vice President has only two constitutional duties. First, that person is the tie breaking vote in the United States Senate. The official title when serving in that capacity is “Senate President”. As such, the Vice President is also the one who is responsible for counting the Electoral Votes received from each state for the office of President and Vice President. Their only other duty is to inquire of the health of the president. In spite of the Vice President being an elected official, that person serves at the pleasure of the president. As such, he or she is responsible for any and all other tasks assigned to him or her by the President of the United States.
