The first unmanned surface vessel (USV) is under construction and this week our Newbuild and Technology Director Sigurd Johannessen and Project Manager Robert Stonghaugen visited the yard GONDAN Shipbuilders - Astilleros Gondán to see the development of the construction.
Delivery from yard is expected by the end of 2024, following offshore testing and ready for operations in 2025. The vessel is designed to undertake subsea inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) and survey work.
The vessel will be chartered by DeepOcean on a long-term contract, and Aker BP ASA will pioneer the use of the USV for subsea IMR and survey work.
The USV is commissioned by USV AS, a joint venture between Solstad, Østensjø Rederi, and DeepOcean, and the solution will reduce emissions significantly compared to conventional offshore vessels, being an important step towards a greener tomorrow!
