Elkem ASA supplies various metals and materials, such as aluminum, energy, silicon metal, ferrosilicon, microsilica, and carbon to the construction, transportation, engineering, packaging, aluminum, chemical, and electronic industries. The company operates in six groups: Sapa; Ferrosilicon; Silicon Metal; Energy; Aluminum; and Materials, Carbon, and Calcium Carbide.

The Sapa group develops, produces, and markets processed aluminum profiles, profile based components, and building systems and strips for aluminum heat exchangers. Its products are primarily used in the construction, transportation, and manufacturing industries, as well as in the automotive industry.

The Ferrosilicon group provides special alloys for foundry customers in the automotive industry, cast-iron pipe manufacturers, and others engaged in mechanical engineering, as well as offers ferrosilicon for the steel industry to produce carbon and stainless steel. The Silicon Metal group offers its products for the chemical industry to produce silicones; for the electronics industry as basis for the manufacturing of semiconductors; and for the aluminum industry as alloying metal.

The Energy group produces hydroelectric power at its three power plants. The Aluminum group provides rolling ingots for the packaging and transportation industries; extrusion billets for the constructions and transportation industries; and foundry billets for the automotive industry.

The Materials, Carbon, and Calcium Carbide group supplies microsilica, which is used as an additive to concrete, structural, and refractory materials, and for drilling in the petroleum industry, as well as for tunnel sealing. This group also produces electrically calcinated anthracite, and Soderberg electrode paste; and calcium carbide for the industrial gases, iron, and steel industries.

The company was founded in 1904 and is headquartered in Oslo, Norway.

Elkem ASA - Successful placement of bond

Oslo, 27 November 2018

Elkem has today successfully issued a senior unsecured bond loan of NOK 1,750
million. The bond loan is a 3 year floating rate loan with a coupon of 3m
Nibor+1.25 % p.a.

The net proceeds from the Bond Issue shall be used for general corporate
purposes. An application will be made for the bond to be listed at Oslo Børs.

Nordea and DNB have acted as Joint Lead Managers for the bond issue.

loans in the Schuldschein market. Total size of the transaction is EUR 215
million, all senior unsecured loans. Amount and pricing for the loans are as
follows

EUR 28.5 million, 3 years, floating rate 6-months Euribor + 0.95%

EUR 125.5 million, 4 years, floating rate 6-months Euribor + 1.10%

EUR 21 million, 6 years, floating rate 6-months Euribor + 1.40%

EUR 15 million, 6 years, fixed mid-swap + 1.40%

EUR 25 million, 7 years, floating rate 6-months Euribor + 1.55%

The pricing for all loans were at the low end of the respective price ranges.

The net proceeds from the Schuldschein loans shall be used for general corporate
purposes.

Kan noen hjelpe meg med å forstå prisingen på denne aksjen, som tilsynelatende er kraftig underpriset. Elkem har med dagens aksjekurs på kr 24,2 en markedsverdi tilsvarende selskapets egenkapital, til tross for en forventet EPS på kr 4,6 for 2019. Selv etter +15% økning fra bunnivå for et par uker siden, er P/E ikke mer enn 4,7.

Fallende silisiumpriser og handelskrig mellom USA og Kina er åpenbart drivere for den negative utvikling, men median kursmål blant analytikere er fortsatt på kr 39. Kan ikke forstå annet enn at aksjekursen har fått ufortjente mye juling av korreksjonen i markedet og handelskrig-dramaet. En mulig frihandelsavtale mellom Norge/Kina samt nedjusterte forventede konsekvenser av handelskrigen for kinesisk økonomi burde også kunne skape positivt momentum for kursutviklingen.

Jeg tenker det samme. Kombinasjon kinesisk eierskap og handelskrig lyder nok ikke så bra for en del investorer.

I tillegg har vi en ledelse med muligens lite børserfaring. Uttalelsen vedrørende forventet resultat for Q4 kunne nok vært gjort på en bedre måte.

Handlet en del på første dippen til 24 og har fylt på både på opp og nedtur siden. Langsiktig investering med mål om solide utbytter, men hvis den når 40 relativt raskt blir det ny vurdering da.

Elkem er helt klart billig, og er et av selskapene som har blitt rammet relativt hardt på grunn av “handelskrigen” som pågår. Elkem vil potensielt doble seg om uroen med Kina / USA blir løst. Elkem er et solid selskap, god balanse, og relativt stabil inntjening. De virker veldig undervurdert.

Oslo, 12 February 2019: Elkem completes a strong 2018, but fourth quarter
earnings hampered by weaker market sentiment, especially in China. Sales prices
and volumes in China have been affected by lower demand and maintenance stops.

Considering the challenging market conditions the result was relatively strong.

Total operating income for the fourth quarter 2018 was NOK 6,265 million, which
was in line with fourth quarter 2017. EBITDA for the quarter amounted to NOK 974
million, down from NOK 1,078 million in the corresponding quarter last year.
Earnings per share (EPS) was NOK 0.64 in fourth quarter, giving accumulated EPS
of NOK 5.74 in 2018.

The board has proposed a dividend of NOK 2.60 per share, which amounts to 45% of
the profit for 2018 in line with Elkem’s policy and based on an extraordinary
strong year with leverage is below target.

“Weaker market conditions in China have resulted in lower sales prices and lower
volumes for core silicone products. Therefore, Xinghuo Silicones has been
operating below full capacity rate in the quarter. As announced, Yongdeng
Silicon Materials have completed technical upgrades of two furnaces resulting in
lower production and sales. The average sales prices in the fourth quarter have
generally been higher than the corresponding quarter last year, but this has
been offset by higher raw material costs and lower sales volumes. The fourth
quarter was also negatively affected by special items and one-off effects of
approx. NOK 55 million,” says Helge Aasen, CEO of Elkem ASA.

Elkem raised new financing of NOK 1,750 million in the Norwegian bond market and
EUR 215 million in the German Schuldschein market during the fourth quarter. The
new loans have maturities ranging from three to seven years and have partly been
used to refinance local bank debt in China. Recapitalisation of Xinghuo
Silicones and Yongdeng Silicon Materials were completed in December 2018 and
January 2019.

The group’s equity as at 31 December 2018 amounted to NOK 13,722 million, giving
a ratio of equity to total assets of 44%. Net interest-bearing debt was NOK
3,264 million, which gave a ratio of net debt to EBITDA of 0.6 times. The group
has a strong liquidity position and a well distributed loan maturity profile.

The company’s fundamental position continues to be strong based on favourable
market positions and strong financials. The current market sentiment is weak,
partly due to seasonality in sectors such as construction. Market prices have
however, stabilised and are likely to increase after first quarter.

First quarter 2019 is expected to be weaker than fourth quarter 2018, mainly due
to temporary production curtailments, and lower average realised sales prices
due to time-lag and effects of Chinese New Year.

Subsequent quarters in 2019 likely to improve based on expected higher sales
volumes, price recovery, lower raw material costs and accelerated improvement
programmes.
