Greenstat Hydrogen and SAGT (South Asia Gateway Terminals , the first public private partnership container terminal in Sri Lanka) have signed an MOU and framework agreement with a view of achieving Sustainability targets of SAGT and adopting Green technologies in Ports sector in Sri Lanka.
The partnership formed between Greenstat and SAGT will be one of the first hydrogen development programs in Sri Lanka and in Ports sector in South Asia.
The initiatives and Action plans will be aligned with Sri Lanka’s Green Hydrogen Strategy and address its Energy Independence/ Security , Economy and Environmental Sustainability.
Both SAGT & Greenstat have shown willingness to work together in Green Hydrogen space and enable SAGT & Port of Colombo in meeting internal and external sustainability targets.
Ports are seen as potential cornerstones for the adoption of Green hydrogen technologies and as backbone infrastructure for hydrogen transport and trade.
As coastal industrial clusters/ hubs, they can help build an integrated approach towards energy transition, accelerate decarbonization whilst also fulfilling the maritime sector and ports’ plans to reduce fuel emissions
The collaboration will help develop renewable energy and Green Hydrogen/Ammonia demand mapping in cooperation with Greenstat and the Norwegian-Indian Hydrogen Cluster.
This will also facilitate for transfer and sharing of expertise, technology, know-how and experience through the green hydrogen value chain and other relevant technologies including green hydrogen production, storage, and safety practices.
Greenstat sees this as a great opportunity to set the standards for hydrogen adoption in Sri Lanka whilst combining SAGTs operational expertise in Ports and market footprint with Greenstat’s hydrogen and renewables value chain experience.
