Improvements in body composition were found in all groups except the normal diet-only group, where lean mass was reduced without substantial fat loss, suggesting a potential metabolic disadvantage of calorie restriction without concurrent exercise.
Conclusion: This thesis examined the effects of endurance exercise and an LCHF diet on cardiometabolic health and body composition. The results demonstrate that endurance training is a robust determinant of improved metabolic health across sexes, age groups, and body fat levels. Regular endurance training consistently enhanced glucose tolerance assessed by AUC, improved lipid profiles, and promoted favorable changes in body composition. In contrast, although LCHF induced moderate weight loss in overweight and obese individuals, it did not improve glucose tolerance or lipid profile. In normal-weight individuals, the LCHF diet not only worsened lipid profiles but also attenuated the beneficial acute effects of exercise on glucose tolerance. Together, these results emphasize the central role of endurance training in supporting metabolic health, while highlighting potential metabolic drawbacks of an LCHF diet, particularly when not accompanied by regular physical activity.
Kroppen trenger mer kolestrol for å frakte energi rundt i fett-form?
Måtte seff sjekke…

when on a keto diet, you often get higher ldl values. Is it to transport energy as fat?

ChatGPT said:
Partly—but LDL is not primarily the body’s “fuel transport” particle for dietary fat .
On a ketogenic diet, several things can happen:
-
Dietary fat is packaged mainly into chylomicrons after a meal and transported from the intestine to tissues. These are the major carriers of exogenous dietary triglycerides.
-
VLDL carries triglycerides made or assembled by the liver to tissues. As VLDL loses triglycerides, it becomes IDL and eventually LDL .
-
LDL’s main job is cholesterol transport , delivering cholesterol (and some other lipids) to cells. It carries relatively little triglyceride compared with VLDL/chylomicrons.
- On a low-carbohydrate/ketogenic diet, especially in people who are lean and metabolically healthy, LDL-C can rise substantially . One proposed mechanism is increased hepatic export and remodeling of lipoproteins as the body relies more heavily on circulating fatty acids and lipoproteins for energy. This is sometimes described as part of the “lean mass hyper-responder” phenotype, although the mechanisms are still being investigated.
So your intuition is directionally related to the underlying physiology , but it’s more accurate to say:
Keto can increase the flux of fat through the lipoprotein system, and this can be associated with higher LDL, but LDL itself isn’t simply a vehicle for transporting fat for energy.
An important distinction is LDL-C vs LDL particle number (LDL-P/ApoB) . LDL-C measures how much cholesterol is contained in LDL; ApoB is a better approximation of the number of atherogenic lipoprotein particles. Those can change differently.
If you’re interested, I can also explain why LDL sometimes shoots up dramatically on keto (e.g. 2–3×) despite triglycerides falling , which is a particularly interesting piece of the physiology.
