It’s great to see that all the heavy equipment donated by Germany is getting to Ukraine to support the AFU. We finally have a steady flow of Leopard 1A5 MBTs again, which will enable the delivery of around 60 additional Leopard 1A5s by the end of the year. In addition, we have finally completed the delivery of the 42 (!) WiSENT 1 MC mine clearing tanks, which were announced at the end of 2022.
By now, there are also only 20 Marder 1A3 IFVs pledged, which are to be overhauled, upgraded and delivered by September at the latest. These will then also be delivered in full for the first time, since Germany has promised the first German-made IFVs to Ukraine at the beginning of 2023.
At the current pace, all bridge-laying tanks Biber and Pionierpanzer 2A1 Dachs AEVs will also be fully delivered by the end of the year. Considering that the pledged six Westland Sea King Mk41s and the third Patriot battery are to be delivered in the near future and that all Vector UAVs (240+) and Cheetah SPAAGs (15) will be delivered until the end of the year, a significant proportion of heavy equipment and long-promised equipment will have been delivered by the end of 2024.
I am therefore very confident that we will see some major announcements within the next six months. After all, we shouldn’t forget that Germany’s Minister of Defence is currently trying to get additional funding for this year’s military aid. €3.8 billion euros according to media reports!
In addition to that, €15 billion (!) are planned for military aid in 2025. One can only hope that the German government can agree on that amount because that would mean some major contracts with arms manufacturers.
In the long term, this could close gaps for which there is currently no funding. State-of-the-art IFVs and MBTs, much more air defence, ammunition and high-quality reconnaissance drones.
Sååå, hva skal Ukraina med
